This article presents a 4-way 2-D butler matrix (BM)-based beamforming network (BFN) using a multilayer substrate broadside coupled stripline (BCS). To achieve the characteristics of a compact, wide-bandwidth, high-gain phased array, a BCS coupler is implemented using the Megtron 6 substrate. The compact 2-D BFN is formed by combining planarly two horizontal BCS couplers and two vertical BCS couplers. The BFN is proposed without a crossover and without a phase shifter, generating phase responses of ±90° in the x- and y-directions, respectively. The proposed BFN exhibits a wide operating band of 66.7% (3–7 GHz) and a compact physical area of just 0.25 λ0 × 0.25 λ0 × 0.04 λ0. The planar 2-D BFN is easily integrated with the patch antenna radiation elements to construct a 2-D multibeam array antenna that generates four fixed beams, one in each quadrant, at an elevation angle of 30° from the broadside to the array axis when the element separation is 0.6 λ0. The physical area of the 2-D multibeam array antenna is just 0.8 λ0 × 0.8 λ0 × 0.04 λ0. The prototypes of the BCS coupler, the 2-D BFN, and the 2-D multibeam array antenna were fabricated and measured. The measured and simulated results were in good agreement. A gain of 9.1 to 9.9 dBi was measured.

Digital RF technology has been developed and has been applied to below 6 GHz wireless applications. By replacing the IC die consumptive RF/analog circuit blocks by digital signal processor and circuit, digital rich/small transceivers can be realized. Since the foundation of this technology is based on the Nyquist theory, the operational frequency of the circuit has been limited by the Nyquist frequency (=1/2 of sampling clock frequency). As a result, the maximum operational RF frequency of existing digital RF technology was below 6 GHz. In this paper, a new direct digital RF technology that utilizes the higher‐order Nyquist zones is introduced. This technology enables handling RF signal in beyond Nyquist frequency range which means over 6 GHz range. The results of fabricated 26/28 GHz‐band transmitter/receiver are reviewed. (in English) In an environment where multiple different wireless systems, such as wireless IoT, coexist in a narrow space such as a factory, interference between these wireless systems causes a degradation of communication data rate and response time. To solve the interference problem, we have developed a real-time, wideband frequency sensing technology that can monitor signals and noise in the frequency bands used by wireless IoT devices (920 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5 GHz bands). The developed frequency spectrum monitor can identify the original RF signal by sampling at multiple clock frequencies using a direct RF undersampling method. The clock frequency is lower than the received RF signal frequency and does not require a high-speed ADC, making it easy to configure with commercial components. A 2-D beam scanning array antenna fed by a compact 16-way 2-D beamforming network (BFN) designed in Broadside Coupled Stripline (BCS) is addressed. The proposed 16-way 2-D BFN is formed by interconnecting two groups of 4x4 Butler Matrix (BM). Each group is composed of four compact 4x4 BMs. The critical point of the design is to propose a simple and compact 4x4 BM without crossover in BCS to achieve a better transmission coefficient of the 16-way 2-D BFN with reduced size of merely 0.8λ0×0.8λ0×0.04λ0. Moreover, the complexity of the interface connection between the 2-D BFN and the 4x4 patch array antenna is reduced by using probe feeding. The 16-way 2-D BFN is able to produce the phase shift of ±45°, and ±135° in x- and y- directions. Evaluation of Satellite Signal Reception Error by Sky View Factor for QZSS Short Message SS-CDMA Communication System

We have proposed Spread Spectrum Code Division Multiple Access (SS-CDMA) short message communication using Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) for safety confirmation system at the time of large disaster. The proposed system controls the transmission timing using highly accurate time and position information obtained from the QZSS. To realize the proposed system, we evaluate the time synchronization accuracy. In this paper, the satellite signal reception error due to sky view factor is evaluated. As a result of evaluating satellite signal reception error, the error amount is 46.0 ns in an environment with a sky view factor of 39.0 %. It is found that the proposed system has sufficient promise to be realized.

これまで我々は,5 GHz帯Wi-Fiバックスキャッタ,及びセルフミキシングを用いてセンサノード(SN:Sensor Node)を検出するWi-Fiアクセスポイント(AP:Access Point)用の受信機アーキテクチャを提案してきた[1].AP受信機では,受信したWi-Fiバックスキャッタ信号をWi-Fi送信信号によってセルフミキシングすることにより,SNにてOn-Off-Keying(OOK)変調の際に使用されるクロック信号を再生できる.本報告では,遅延時間に対する信号電力,雑音電力密度を定式化し,信号対雑音電力比(SNR:Signal-to-Noise Ratio)を計算したので報告する.

1-bit band-pass delta-sigma modulator (BP-DSM) can generate RF signal directly from 1-bit data stream in high dynamic range by oversampling technology without local oscillator (LO) and mixer, so the miniaturization of transmitter can be realized. Meanwhile, to generate RF signal in high frequency band, direct digital RF transmitter using image components of 1-bit signal folded in high Nyquist zone has been studied. In a previous study, an image enhancement 1-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) based on a high-speed inverter has been proposed to regenerate or enhance the high order image components of 1-bit BP-DS modulated signal which attenuate severely because of the transmission loss. Measurement of Power Delay Profile for Local 5G System

Power delay profile for Local 5G systems at sub-6 band is measured. Modulations of transmitted signal are not changeable in this case generally. We are not able to use more flexible modulated transmission signals which are suitable for measuring a power delay profile for Local 5G systems. A more flexible measurement method using two antennas for reference and received signal at observation point is proposed. Measurement results of power delay profile for Local 5G at sub-6 band by using proposed method are shown in this report.

In this article, a new Beamforming Network (BFN) realized in Broadside Coupled Stripline (BCS) is proposed to feed 1×4 and 2×2 arrays antenna at 28 GHZ-Band. The new BFN is composed only of couplers and phase shifters. It doesn't require any crossover compared to the conventional Butler Matrix (BM) which requires two crossovers. The tight coupling and low loss characteristics of the BCS allow a design of a compact and wideband BFN. The new BFN produces the phase differences of (±90°) and (±45°, ±135°) respectively in x- and y-directions. Its integration with a 1×4 linear array antenna reduces the array area by 70% with an improvement of the gain performance compared with the conventional array. The integration with a 2×2 array allows the realization of a full 2-D beam scanning. Wideband Half-Cross Shaped Slotted Patch Antenna For 5G Applications

This paper presents a wideband half-cross shaped slotted patch antenna for 5G applications. The proposed antenna design involves careful optimization of the shape and dimensions of the half-cross shaped slot, ensuring the generation of two closely resonating modes and a contiguous wide bandwidth. Additionally, the optimized design achieves suitable surface current distributions, leading to stable high gain performance across the operating band. Despite its compact size and utilization of a simple proximity feeding microstrip line, the proposed antenna surpasses the performance of many previous works in terms of bandwidth and gain. The proposed antenna shows a wide bandwidth of 7.235 GHz and a gain ranging from 7.646 dB to 8.87 dB, with an average gain of 8.26 dB. A Calibration method for RF Spectrum Regeneration Using Direct RF Undersampling at Different Sampling Frequency Multi-path

(in English) A direct RF undersampling method is an important technique for simple circuits and devices because sampling frequency of Analogue-Digital converter (ADC) can be decreased. It is specially useful to measure spectrum in several wireless system at factory. We have proposed several methods to regenerate RF-spectrum by using direct undersampling data from parallel connected multi-ADCs. Some errors, which iare caused by different transmission functions of each path from common point to each ADCs, generate. This phenomena become obvious at higher frequency. A calibration method that the elements of connect matrix are transformed to each transfer function is proposed to suppress these errors in this report. We confirm an effectiveness of this method by a simulation.

超過密環境においても適応可能なミリ波帯 WBAN

近年のInternet of things(IoT)デバイスの普及により,体表周囲に無線端末を配置するワイヤレスボディエリアネットワーク(WBAN)が注目されている.今後のWBANの普及に伴い,WBAN間干渉が問題になると考えられる.例えば満員電車内のように複数のWBANユーザが狭空間に密集している混雑環境においては,隣接するWBAN間の干渉が頻繁に発生し,特に混雑環境においても電波が伝搬しやすい920 MHz帯や2.4 GHz帯などのマイクロ波帯WBANでは深刻な問題である.この問題に対する解決策として,ミリ波帯(60 GHz帯)の人体遮蔽による干渉電力減衰効果を利用したWBANが有効であると考えられる.我々はこれまで人体遮蔽を考慮した60 GHz帯WBANのWBAN内伝搬特性およびWBAN間干渉について検討を行ってきた.本発表ではミリ波帯WBANのユーザ密集環境における干渉抑制効果の検討内容について紹介する.

(in English) In 5G and next-generation mobile communication systems, to achieve High-speed communication, massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) and carrier aggregation (CA) that use multiple transmitters have been introduced with a wideband modulation signal, which causes an increase in the size of the equipment, thereby requiring the need to reduce its size. To solve this issue, 1-bit band-pass delta-sigma modulation (1-bit BP-DSM) has focused on, which can output modulation signals directly from the digital section without using analog frequency converter and local oscillator. A study on shadowing caused by a metallic object placed near LCX antenna of 920MHz-band RFID system

This paper describes the shadowing effect caused by a metallic object which is placed close to 920MHz-band RFID reader/writer antenna. Two kinds of antennas, a conventional patch antenna and a leaky coaxial cable (LCX) antenna, are examined by electro-magnetic (EM) simulation. It shows that the LCX antenna has smaller shadowed area than the conventional patch antenna.

130 GHz Band CMOS Amplifier with Miniaturized Interstage Circuit by Stacked Radial Stubs

Low loss matching circuit is a key issue in 130 GHz band multi-stage CMOS amplifier design. We reported the use of radial stubs as AC GNDs is effective to achieve low loss matching circuit. In this paper, we propose stacked radial stub for interstage matching circuits. This stacked radial stub consists of two radial stubs stacked vertically using multi-layered metals. It works as two independent radial stubs whereas it consumes one radial stub’s die area, therefore compact and low loss interstage matching circuit can be realized. The proposed stub has been designed to obtain isolation between stacked radial stubs over 40 dB in 130 GHz band and adopted into the interstage matching circuits of three-stage amplifier. This amplifier has been fabricated in 45nm SOI CMOS process and it shows peak gain of 9.9 dB at 135.8 GHz by measurement.

Power Delay Profile Measurement Applied MUSIC for Local 5G System

Power delay profile for Local 5G system at sub-6 band is measured. Modulation method of transmitted signal is not changeable in this case generally. We are not able to use more flexible modulated transmission signals which are suitable for measuring a power delay profile of Local 5G systems. We have already proposed the more flexible measurement method using two antennas for reference signal near transmission point and received signal at observation point. The IFFT function is used in conventional method. The subjects of low time-resolution and high level sidelobe caused by zero-padding are remained in conventional case. We apply MUSIC algorithm with time-oversampling and with increasing data and snapshots for higher time-resolution and low sidelobe characteristics. Measurement results of power delay profile for Local 5G at sub-6 band by using proposed method are shown in this report.

A Practical Number of Sampling Points for RF Spectrum Regeneration Method Using Direct RF Undersampling

Sampling numbers of each ADCs are important parameters in order to regenerate RF spectrum. We show a relation between independent variables of these sampling number and some band conditions. These sampling numbers are conventionally set to relatively primes to keep independent variables.
