Black soldier fly larvae shells/BSF-based chitosan can be utilized as polymer electrolyte membrane. This research aims to analyze the physical characteristics of BSF chitosan/PVA/PAN/NH 4 Cl by varying amount of chitosan and ratio of PVA: PAN. Membrane was fabricated using the phase inversion method. Polymer electrolyte with a mixture of 1.20 g of PVA/PAN with ratio variations of 10: 90 and 20: 80 and chitosan variations of 2.4 g; 2.8 g; and 3.2 g. Chitosan was also FTIR-characterized. Density and wáter absorption of polymer electrolyte with chitosan composition of 2.4 g; 2.8 g; 3.2 g and PVA/PAN ratio of 10: 90 were 0.824 g/mL; 1 g/mL and 1.51 g/mL and water absorption 28.571%; 38.333%; and 46.154%, respectively; and at PVA/PAN ratio of 20: 80 were 0.734 g/mL; 1.03 g/mL and 1.096 g/mL and water absorption 62.5%; 66.667% dan 100%, respectively. Best physical property was obtained with the incorporation of 2.4 g of chitosan and 10: 90 PVA/PAN ratio.

Sustainable food packaging materials have significant interest in addressing environmental issues by making renewable substitutes such as bioplastic based on pectin. Orange peel has a relatively high pectin content of 42.5%, which can be synthesized into bioplastic. Pectin-based bioplastic tend to have limitations in terms of mechanical and physical strength due to the hygroscopic nature of pectin. This study aims to determine the effect of adding glycerol and sago starch on the characteristics of orange peel pectin-based bioplastic. The casting method was used in the bioplasctic formulation using the variation of the pectin: starch ratio (75: 25, 65: 35, 55: 45; and 50: 50%) and glycerol composition (10, 20, 30, and 40%). Based on the results, the pectin obtained categorized as low methoxyl pectin and ester pectin. The characterizations of bioplastic achieved the maximum value of the tensile strength of bioplastic was 4.22 MPa, obtained by adding pectin: starch (50: 50%) and 10% glycerol. The maximum value of the elongation properties at the break of bioplastic is 24%, obtained by adding the composition of pectin: starch (75: 25%) and 40% glycerol. The more additions of the pectin: starch and glycerol composition result in higher water vapor evaporation rate. Hence, utilizing orange peel pectin-based bioplastic offers a sustainable solution by exploring repurposing waste to create bioplastic for food packaging, thereby contributing to environmental preservation.

Covid-19, which is declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on March 11 2020 has significant impacts in many sectors around the world. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research which analyses the impact of Covid-19 in the construction projects risks in developing countries. Given the lack of research related to the construction projects risks due to Covid-19, the overall aim of the study is to identify and classify the risk in a construction project as a result of Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia. The methodology which is used in this study is by implementing the questionnaire approach with the targets from the related construction industry stakeholders. The findings identified five risks which have the highest possibility to occur in a construction project as a result of Covid-19, in which the highest risk is delayed funding on construction project design (Score: 0, 2523) while the lowest risk is unknown threat or vandalism from the neighborhood gangster (score: 0, 0136). Further study will focus on the way in which we could develop a new framework model for risk management and preventive measures of these risks adjusted to Covid-19 impact.

Pectin edible film (PEF) is a biopolymer material with a thin layer. The physical properties of edible pectin film, such as density, water uptake, and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), were observed in the PEF filled with carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA). PEF filled with CHA is used as a film for the drug delivery system in this research. The cinnamaldehyde as a sample of the drug was poured into the solution of PEF. PEF was produced by mixing pectin (0.015 g/mL); CHA with the concentrations that have been appointed (1, 3, 5, and 7 wt%) and tween 80 (0.5% w/v) as an emulsifier. The mixture was poured into the 0.6 g glycerol/g polymer's solution and stirred well for around 1.5 hours until the solution reached the homogeneous phase. The development of bioplastics is currently in demand considering that was a substitute for the synthesis of plastic packaging with environmental consequences. Bioplastics are environmentally friendly because they are made from natural materials and can be degraded naturally. This study centers on the manufacture of bioplastic based on avocado seed starch with variations in the addition of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) fillers using oil palm mesocarp fibers as raw material and the appended potassium chloride as dispersing agent. In this research, we analyzed the mechanical dan thermal properties of bioplastic including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elongation at break (Eb), tensile strength (Ts), and thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA). The highest value of Ts was obtained at the appended of 2 wt.% of CNC and the appended 2 wt.% of KCl, while the highest value of Eb was obtained at 2 wt.% of CNC and 3 wt.% of KCl. Scanning electron microscopy showed uniformly distributed CNC granules filling the surface of the bioplastic. There are six phases of thermal gravimetry analysis. These results indicate that the addition of CNC and KCl will increase the mechanical and thermal properties of avocado seed bioplastic.

2. MetodeBahan baku yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah gliserol, kulit buah salak yang diperoleh dari Padang Sidempuan, pektin komersial, kalsium klorida dihidrat (CaCl2. 2H2O), silica gel dan Tween 80. Peralatan utama yang digunakan adalah ayakan 230 mesh, blender, magnetic stirrer, hot plate, oven listrik, timbangan, termometer dan cetakan.Kulit salak dicuci dengan air beberapa kali sampai bersih kemudian dikeringkan dalam oven dengan suhu 70 oC sampai kering, lalu diblender sampai terbentuk serbuk, kemudian diayak dengan menggunakan mesh No. 230 [9]. Pembuatan edible film dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode solvent casting mengikuti proses yang dilakukan oleh Wirawan et al.(2012) yaitu dengan melarutkan 0,015 g/mL pektin, kulit salak dengan variasi konsentrasi sebesar 0%, 2%, 3%, 4% dan 6%(wt) dan Tween 80 (0, 5% dari berat total) dalam 200 mL larutan yang telah mengandung 0, 6 g plasticizer/g pektin pada suhu kamar sambil diaduk dengan pengaduk merkuri selama 1, 5 jam agar larutan homogen. Larutan dipanaskan sampai 70 C kemudian dimasukkan larutan CaCl2. 2H2O sebanyak 0, 04 g/g pektin dalam 30 mL aquadest selama 30 menit (sedikit demi sedikit). Setelah larutan tercampur seluruhnya pengadukan dihentikan dan larutan dituang pada teflon kemudian dikeringkan dengan oven vakum pada suhu 50 oC selama 15 jam. Penanganan pascapanen hasil tani masyarakat perlu mendapat perhatian guna meningkatkan mutu hasil panen. Pengeringan merupakan salah satu penanganan pasca panen yang perlu mendapat perhatian. Metode konvensional yang diterapkan oleh petani saat ini masih perlu perbaikan. Petani kopi perlu mendapat perhatian dalam penanganan pasca panen. Penanganan yang umum dilakukan oleh petani adalah pengeringan langsung di bawah cahaya matahari (pengeringan surya alami). Pengeringan ini tidak menjamin keseragaman mutu karena fluktuasi intensitas cahaya matahari. Selain itu kebersihan bahan yang dikeringkan juga tidak terjamin karena dibiarkan di alam terbuka. Hexagonal rotary dryer adalah suatu pengeringan yang memanfaatkan cahaya matahari. Pengeringan ini beroperasi pada pagi, sore, malam hari, atau siang yang mendung/hujan dengan melewatkan udara kering pada media pengering (selongsong). Penggunaan Hexagonal rotary dryer juga bertujuan untuk memudahkan mekanisme penjemuran terutama saat pengumpulan hasil panen saat hujan. Selain itu tujuan lain daripada program ini adalah menghasilkan suatu sistem pengeringan yang mampu menghasilkan hasil tani dengan kualitas yang lebih baik dan seragam, menghasilkan alat pengeringan baru yaitu prototip Hexagonal rotary dryer, serta mendapatkan teknik serta variable pendukung alat pengeringan tersebut.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh selulosa nanokristal dan kalium klorida (KCl) pada bioplastik dari pati biji alpukat dan gliserol sebagai plasticizer. Pada penelitian ini, selulosa nanokristal yang diperoleh dari serat buah kelapa sawit dihidrolisis dengan menggunakan asam sulfat (H2SO4) pada konsentrasi 50%. Pati yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari proses ekstraksi biji alpukat. Proses pembuatan bioplastik digunakan metode casting dengan penambahan selulosa nanokristal sebagai pengisi 1%, 2%, 3%, dan 4%(b/b), KCl sebagai pendispersi 0%, 1%, 2%, dan 3%(b/b), dan gliserol sebagai plasticizer sebesar 30%. Berdasarkan analisis densitas, nilai densitas optimum diperoleh pada penambahan 2% selulosa nanokristal dan 2% KCl dengan nilai sebesar 0,041 gram/cm3. Nilai penyerapan air yang terbaik adalah dengan penambahan selulosa nanokristal 2% dan KCl 1%, dengan nilai 57, 1% dan 53, 8%. Hasil Scanning Electron Microscope menunjukkan butiran-butiran selulosa nanokristal yang tersebar seragam mengisi permukaan bioplastik. Penambahan KCl sebagai agen pendispersi memberikan dampak yang baik.

Masalah sampah di Indonesia belum terselesaikan hingga saat ini, jumlah rata-rata produksi sampah di Indonesia mencapai 175.000 ton per hari atau setara dengan 64 juta ton per tahun, dimana produksi sampah setiap orang per hari sebanyak 0, 7 kg. Peraturan pemerintah yang mengharuskan masyarakat mengolah limbah dimulai dari rumah masing-masing, dapat diupayakan dengan mengubah paradigma pengelolaan sampah yakni memandang sampah sebagai sesuatu yang punya nilai guna dan manfaat. Metode penyuluhan pengelolaan sampah melalui permainan atau obrolan dan diskusi dapat dipakai untuk mengedukasi anak-anak. Penyuluhan akan peduli terhadap lingkungan akan berdampak pada kepekaaan dan merasakan sendiri bahwasanya lingkungan yang bersih tanpa sampah itu ternyata memang jauh lebih baik dibanding lingkungan yang berserakan sampah. Pemahaman anak-anak akan pengelolaan sampah anorganik di Yayasan Al-Kahfi Medan khususnya kertas masih kurang ditunjukkan dengan masih terbuangnya sampah dengan begitu saja. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran serta pemahaman anak-anak sekolah dasar mengenai pengolahan sampah anorganik khususnya kertas dalam rangka menjaga kelestarian lingkungan dan mengurangi dampak sampah. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah pemahaman yang meningkat tentang pengelolaan sampah serta penerapan yang dilakukan oleh anak-anak sekolah dasar yang dimulai dari lingkungan serta kesehariannya sendiri.

The use of paper is increasing from time to time. If not handled properly it will have an impact on the surrounding environment. One way that can reduce the impact to the environment is to recycle the paper waste into a handicraft product that has economic value. Based on this background, a training for community is needed to educate on how to process used paper into valuable handicraft products. This education must be instilled from an early age, so that children begin to understand that by properly processing waste paper, they can produce something of value that will have an impact on increasing income. This training was carried out at the Al-Kahfi Medan Foundation. The object (target audience) of this community service is the children at the Al-Kahfi Medan Foundation. Children at the Al-Kahfi Medan Foundation do not yet know that used paper can be processed into valuable handicraft products, so a socialisation is needed for them. Children will be given training and trained to be able to process used paper into handicraft products and then be able to market and sell it. After being given this training, it is expected that the mindset of the children at the Al-Kahfi Medan Foundation can change from before, namely waste paper waste, with proper handling can become a valuable handicraft product. The method that will be carried out in this community service is to provide training and also practices and then a trial is carried out so that the children at the Al-Kahfi Medan Foundation can understand the mechanism of processing the used paper into handcraft products.

Properties of silica reinforced unsaturated polyester composite: The effect of filler content

The effect of filler content on the composite properties of unsaturated polyester reinforced with silica filler has been carried out. The content of the silica filler used varied from 10 to 40%. Preparation of composites was carried out by the pressing method using compression molding at a pressure of 125 psi. From the results, it was found that the content of the silica filler was very influential on the properties and characteristics of the composite. Results have shown, the flexural strength decreased with increasing content of filler, while impact strength increased with optimum value in filler content 30% weight which was 11247 J/m 2. For the water absorption of composite, the increasing content of the filler led to the greater the percentage of composite water absorption. Karakteristik dan Sifat Biokomposit Pektin Kulit Jeruk dan Pati Sagu Terisi Selulosa Nanokristal (NCC) dari Kulit Rotan Menggunakan Plasticizer Gliserol

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan selulosa nanokristal (NCC) dan gliserol pada biokomposit berbasis pektin dan pati. Pada penelitian ini, NCC yang diperoleh dari kulit rotan dihidrolisis menggunakan asam sulfat (H2SO4) dengan konsentrasi 50%, 55%, 60% dan 65%. Pektin yang digunakan pada penelitian ini diperoleh dari proses ekstraksi limbah kulit jeruk, sedangkan pati yang digunakan berasal dari pati sagu. Metode casting digunakan pada pembuatan bioplastik dan biokomposit dengan penambahan NCC sebagai pengisi sebesar 1-4 (%b) dan gliserol sebagai plasticizer sebesar 10-40 (%b). Hasil analisis XRD menunjukkan indeks kristalinitas semakin meningkat seiring peningkatan konsentrasi H2SO4 hingga 60%. Analisis FTIR menunjukkan bahwa NCC yang dihasilkan memiliki kesamaan struktur dengan selulosa. Hasil TEM menunjukkan bahwa NCC berbentuk batang dengan ukuran rata-rata 10-70 nm. Berdasarkan perolehan titrimetri, pektin kulit jeruk yang dihasilkan termasuk kategori pektin bermetoksil rendah (low methoxyl pectin). Bioplastik pati sagu memiliki kekuatan tarik sebesar 1,61 MPa sedangkan bioplastik pektin kulit sebesar 0,97 MPa. Perolehan kekuatan tarik bioplastik sagu ini didukung oleh hasil analisis SEM yang menunjukkan kekusutan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan bioplastik pektin kulit jeruk. Hasil FTIR pada biokomposit menunjukkan puncak-puncak serapan yang lebih tajam seiring peningkatan komposisi NCC dan gliserol. The effect of filler content on the properties of zeolite particle-filled unsaturated polyester composites was carried out. The composites were prepared using the pressure method on the compression molding instrument. The content of zeolite particles in composites was varied from 10%–40% by weight. Properties of composites analyzed were flexural strength, impact strength, water absorption and thermal resistance. From the obtained results, the presence of zeolite particles has reduced the flexural strength of composite has decreased the value from 78 to 45 MPa. For impact strength, an increase in properties occurs with the addition of a filler of 20% by weight which is 6682 J/m2. The result of water absorption shows that the more filler content in the composite, the higher the water absorption capacity. Palm fruit fiber is one of waste from palm oil mill processes which its utilization could be much improved. Palm fruit fiber itself contains cellulose and the source is abundantly available in natural resources. The aim of this study was to manufacture nanocrystalline cellulose from palm fruit fiber waste. Nanocrystalline cellulose was prepared by using acid hydrolysis with sulfuric acid as hydrolysis agent. In this research, various acid concentrations were applied viz. 50, 55, 60, and 65%. The results showed that NCC with 50% sulfuric acid concentration hydrolysis successfully obtained highest crystallinity index of 79.15% and yield of 36.4% with 60% sulfuric acid concentration. Unsaturated polyester (UPR) composite containing the powder of peanut shell fiber filler is a panel product made by compacting the particles of peanut shell powder and binding them with UPR. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of peanut shell fiber powder cellulose filler composition and addition of compatibilizer on the tensile properties, energy impact and water absorption of UPR composites. The composites were made of UPR as matrix and mixed with peanut shell powder as filler, with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide catalyst, and molded by using compression molding method. The result of the physical properties test supported by FTIR characterization of the composite showed that the filler was dispersed into the matrix with the formation of a new wave from 3463 to 3495 cm-1.
