A passive wireless tag to identify a given command which has been received, even while responding to a wireless tag communication device. In this wireless tag, radio waves serving as a predetermined command are received from a wireless tag communication device via an antenna and an RF switch. Signal components are detected from the received radio waves by the detection circuit. The detected signal components are sampled by the sampling circuit in accordance with the timing when the RF switch is controlled to its ON state by a predetermined control signal. The time interval of the ON state is set to be sufficiently shorter than a transfer cycle of the received radio waves. The control circuit thus identifies the foregoing predetermined command according to the sampling results obtained from the sampling circuit.

後方散乱通信(Backscatter Communication)は端末群と送信器,受信器から構成されるデジタル無線通信方式である.送信器から供給された電波を端末が変調しながら反射することで,端末と受信器間にデジタル通信を形成するため,端末に送信アンプや周波数変換器が不要であり,無線給電だけでも動作可能なレベルのμW級の超低消費電力やmm2級の小形端末が実現できる.この特徴を活かし,計算機能や通信機能を有さない物品を情報システムで扱うInternet of Things (IoT)分野での応用が進んでいる.本論文では,後方散乱通信の動作原理及び,その通信品質や機能・性能を向上させるための技術開発の動向について,実際の信号やデータを示しながら解説する.

This paper presents a harmonics rejection method for the sensor-to-interrogator link of frequency division multiple access (FDMA) backscatter communication system exploiting an FFT filterbank. It is well known that backscatter signals produce undesired outband emissions and harmonics because of the absence of a pulse shaping filter. Harmonics, produced by introducing subcarrier coding, are particularly problematic because they interfere with particular frequency channels. The proposed method features the generation of harmonics replicas from the baseband signal in an allocated channel produced by a FFT filterbank. 論文抄録聴覚障がい者の方のコミュニケーションには手話が使われている. 手話翻訳を実現することができれば, 両者の間のコミュニケーションの障壁を軽減することが可能になる. 本報告では複数の単語手話動作からなる短文手話動作を各単語にセグメンテーションする方法として, 取得した短文手話動作データから速度情報を求め, その情報を用いて分割する方法を提案する. そして, 分割した動作データに対して LSTM を用いて単語学習させ, 作成した識別モデルからの識別時の尤度と各単語動作との DTW による距離から単語識別した結果を述べる.

Concurrent data communication based on backscat-ter is an unnoticed research domain in the past, but recently it is considered as a promising technology for Massive IoT in the B5G/6G wireless sensor network (WSN). In this domain, it is a practical multiple access solution to use multiple subcarriers. This paper proposes a frequency continuous calibration method to improve the frequency accuracy of uplink subcarrier (USC) in the concurrent data communication mode, called USC continuous calibration (USCoCa). Tag obtains a 10kHz amplitude modulation frequency reference from reader, uses a digital frequency lock loop to calibrate the on-chip digital controlled ring oscillator, and generates USC with a wide frequency range and good frequency accuracy. (in English) This paper proposes a low-complexity multi-targets super-resolution AZ-EL ranging of FMCW radar. The complexity reduction is achieved by conducting MUSIC AoA detection on the down converted FMCW signals firstly, then applying FFT for ranging on the reduced signal space. To avoid the phase error in MUSIC caused by targets in the same distance, spatial smoothing is used. The proposed method was evaluated with computer simulations using MATLAB. Real world experiment using commercial FMCW radar at 79GHz and two corner reflectors was conducted too. These evaluations revealed the proposal can achieve over 700 times reduction of signal processing load with 11% measurement errors.

近年,ドローンに搭載されているカメラ映像を見ながらパイロットが操縦しコースを周回する時間を競うレースドローンが人気を集めている.レースドローン向けの映像伝送方式はレイテンシが小さいアナログ映像伝送が主流である.しかしアナログ映像伝送は電磁ノイズが画質を劣化させる.一方,従来のデジタルIP映像伝送は高画質だがフレームバッファリングやエンコード処理により遅延が増加するため,レースドローンには使われていない.また,従来のドローン用映像伝送システムは見通し外通信において映像伝送ができなかった.この問題を解決するために,従来手法ではフレーム単位でエンコード処理されていたところ,本手法では8ライン単位でカメラキャプチャ処理,画像補正処理,エンコード処理,IP送信をパイプライン化し,フレームバッファを用いない低遅延なHD映像伝送システムをFPGA上に実装した.既存のドローン向け映像伝送システムのカメラからディスプレイ間の合計遅延を測定し,提案手法と比較を行った.提案手法の合計遅延は30.9 msであり従来のドローン用デジタル映像伝送より100 …

Backscatter communication is an emerging wireless access technology to realize ultra-low power terminals exploiting the modulated reflection of incident radio wave. This paper proposes a method to measure the phase angle of backscatter link using principal component analysis (PCA). The phase angle measurement of backscatter link at the receiver is essential to maximize the signal quality for subsequent demodulation and to measure the distance and the angle of arrival. The drawback of popular phase angle measurement with naive phase averaging and linear regression analysis is to produce erroneous phase angle, where the phase angle is close to radian and the signal quality is poor. The advantage of the proposal is quantified with a computer simulation, a conducted experiment and radio propagation experiments.

Fractional Delayed Detection For Unstable Subcarrier-Coded Backscatter Link

This paper proposes a carrier recovery method for subcarrier-coded backscatter links using a fractional, less than one-symbol, delayed detection. The fractional delayed detection extends the permissible subcarrier frequency errors but results in an unbalanced distribution of delayed symbols. This paper reveals the contribution of fractional detection in RFID sensing systems, particularly the system with an FDMA backscatter to collect streaming data. The unbalanced symbol distribution problem is resolved using a principal component analysis (PCA) of delayed symbols. The fractional delayed detection was evaluated both with a MATLAB simulation and a combination of a software-defined interrogator and a prototype wireless sensor. Both evaluations showed the effectiveness of the proposal.

The 2020 International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Communications (ICETC 2020), organized by the Communications Society of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), was held online due to the COVID-19 outbreak from December 2 to 4 and was a great success. This is the first international conference on all the technical fields covered by IEICE Communication Society. The conference’s objectives are synergistic effects beyond the technical fields, expansion of research areas, and development of young researchers. This international conference is a place for discussions; therefore, not only recent research results but also preliminary results at the initial stage of research. At this conference, 260 technical papers from 9 countries were presented, including tutorial workshops.This special cluster consists of but is not limited to submissions specifically from the authors of ICETC2020. This cluster provided two submission deadlines to make a chance for revised submission. We received 17 and 23 submitted letters by the respective deadlines. After careful review, 24 letters were accepted in total. I hope that this special cluster will inspire researchers and will promote further research activities is the communication research fields. Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the authors for their outstanding contributions and to the reviewers and editorial board members for their tremendous efforts in making this special cluster a success.

Channel allocation in backscatter synchronous streaming protocols reduction of RF tag built-in oscillator frequency calibration time

(in English) The authors extend the RFID international standard protocol, ISO/IEC18000-63, and study a wireless protocol that enables synchronous streaming using multiple subcarrier channels (hereafter referred to as channels). The synchronous streaming protocol enables multipoint synchronous sensing such as structural health monitoring and modal testing. For multipoint synchronous sensing, the challenge is to allocate channels to a large number of RF tags as quickly as possible. In this paper, we report and demonstrate the speedup achieved by relaxing the DCRO calibration threshold during channel allocation. As a comparison, we compared our results with the channel allocation time before the change. We report that the allocation time per channel is reduced by about 10% compared to the existing method.

Low Complexity Super-Resolution Azimuth-Ranging of FMCW Radar

(in English) This poster examines super-resolution azimuth-ranging using frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar with low complexity computation. With FMCW radars, in order to capture multiple targets simultaneously, a common approach is taken, by performing fast Fourier transformation (FFT) on a time-domain received signal. The output, frequency-domain, signal is again processed through FFT for each frequency bin in order to identify targets’ range and velocity. And, by utilizing algorithms such as multiple signal classification (MUSIC), it is possible to measure super-resolution azimuth-range of multiple targets relative to the radar. However, this approach requires large amount of signal processing due to the implementation of 2D FFT and a long processing time due to accumulations of frames in two dimensions. This paper reports the design, implementation and the result of real-world experiment of wireless modal testing with battery-free backscatter sensors. The battery-free backscatter sensor comprises a custom radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC), a commodity micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer, and an antenna. Sensor data concurrency demanded in modal testing is realized by allocating a dedicated subcarrier to each backscatter sensor. The orchestration of wireless communications in 920 MHz based on Gen2 protocol and the wireless power supply to the backscatter sensor are performed by a software defined interrogator built on LabVIEW communications and USRP. We developed an over the air (OTA) subcarrier frequency allocation with a sequence of WRITE commands of Gen2 protocol, and its performance was confirmed with the experiments in an indoor radio propagation. Fast Blind Equalizer Exploiting Statistical Features of Symbol Constellations

This paper proposes a fast blind equalization algorithm realized by equating the higher-order statistics of transmitted and received signals’ IQ constellations over wireless channels. The idea is motivated by the fact that the transmitter and the receiver usually pre-share the modulation scheme, which determines the statistical distribution of the IQ constellation. Conventional blind equalizer algorithms are not practical because these optimize the equalizer coefficients with the gradient descent method demanding from hundreds to thousands of iterations to converge. This paper proposes a dimensionless loss function that can be extended to various modulation schemes and applies the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm to regularize the Hessian matrix of the loss function automatically. This regularization compensates the singularity of the Hessian matrix which enables fast equalizing. The proposed method is evaluated in a MATLAB simulation to reveal that the algorithm can converge within dozens of iterations, achieving about a hundred times faster convergence and about a 30 times faster computation time than conventional blind equalization. The evaluation also reveals that the cause of the singularity of the Hessian matrix is the eigenvector space of equalizer coefficients which works to amplify inter-symbol-interference.

Recently, multi-point synchronous sensing, which is used for structural health monitoring, is desirable to allocate channels to many sensor tags in a short time. In this study, we have proposed an approach for accelerating channel allocation in the synchronous streaming protocol. A sensor tag uses subcarrier frequency for backscatter communication. The sensor tag requires recursive calibration of the subcarrier frequency due to the instability of the subcarrier frequency oscillator inside the tag’s circuit. We have demonstrated that recursive calibration of subcarrier frequency is a dominant factor in channel allocation time. Furthermore, we found that by combining the reduction of initial calibrations and threshold’s relaxation for terminal judgment. as well as its quantitative evaluation, Experimental evaluation shows that the proposed approach can accelerate channel allocation by up to 43% compared with existing approach.
