Failure analysis of biocomposite sandwich pipe under internal pressure–Application for high pressure gas transportation pipelines MEDGAZ

In this paper, analytical and 3D numerical models are developed to investigate the mechanical behavior of sandwich pipe under internal pressure loading. The suggested models provide an exact solution for stresses, strains and displacement on the sandwich pipe, which is made of epoxy material for the core layer and reinforced materials with an alternate-ply for the skin layers. The aim of this analysis is to evaluate the potential applications of jute and pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) bio-fibers in order to replace glass synthetic fibers generally employed in sandwich pipes. In this subject, a failure analytical analysis was developed using TSAI-WU criterion. The results of stress, strain and displacement distribution through the thickness are presented for the analytical and numerical models. Mechanical behavior analysis of corroded pipelines used to transport hydrogen

This paper is dedicated to the implementation of a numerical model of corroded pipelines using the finite element method. This last model was carried out on the commercial software ANSYS Apdl. A numerical model of a pipeline with one defect was made to validate the results of the bursting stress. This results have been compared with data and results from experimental and analytical large-scale pipeline tests. Then, four numerical models were implemented with different types of external defects. Thanks to these models, we carried out a series of numerical tests for the four cases, and from the results obtained, we found that the depth of the defect affects the stress more than the circumferential Sc and longitudinal Sl spacing between the defects. On the other hand, the interaction between the defects clearly manifests when these spacings take small values. In addition, for larger spacings, we noticed the absence of interactions between the defects, and each defect alone affects the equivalent Von Mises stress.

Micromechanical analysis of a bio-sandwich application for cylinder under pressure

In recent years, there has been a growing replacement of synthetic fibers by natural ones, particularly by autochthonous materials. In the case of Algeria, the most abundant plant resources are the PALF (Pineapple leaf fiber), the date palm, and the Alfa fibers. In this work, the development and use of analytical and numerical methods are proposed to predict the mechanical properties of layers based on natural fibers that will be applied to manufacture skins of the sandwich cylinder. To achieve these predictions, four analytical models were used, namely the Halpin–Tsai, the Chamis, the Hashin vs. Rosen, and the ROM. The analytical results were compared with the numerical simulations and experimental data. The prediction of the elastic properties of the three fiber-based eco-composites showed an important dispersion in terms of stiffness.

Deterministic Analysis for Creep Behavior of Damaged Composite Tubular Structure

The aim of this paper is to study the effect of creep loading on damaged multilayered composite cylindrical structure, taking into account various damage rates by developing analytical model. The developed model is used to simulate the elasto-visco-plastic response of damage cylindrical composite structure under different types of loading such as tension and internal pressure with end effect. This model makes it possible to estimate the service life of the multilayed damaged structures subjected to a creep loading. The results obtained make and show that the presence of the damage within the multilayer structures causes a clear increase of the circumferential stress which is the only responsible of the ruin, where some results are compared with experimental testing from previous works and a good correlation is obtained.
