Sliding Mode Pulse-Width Modulation-Based Direct Toque Control for Nine-Switch Inverter Dual-Induction Motor Drive

This paper proposes sliding mode pulse-width modulation (SMPWM) for the nine-switch inverter (NSI) as solution for the main drawback of voltage and current distortion. The proposed modulation is based on Lyapunov approach and can directly trigger the nine switches without restrictions and regardless of the operation frequency modes. SMPWM along with modified direct torque control-based sliding mode approach is designed for NSI driving dual-induction motor to obtain fixed switching frequency and low torque ripple. Stability analysis is carried out for each proposed method, and convergence condition depends on the value of dc-bus voltage that can be achieved. The feasibility of the proposed control is verified under load and speed conditions through simulation results.

Nonlinear control via Backstepping for five-phase permanent magnet synchronous generator-based wind generation system

This paper presents a design for one of the nonlinear control techniques for wind-generation system (WGS) connected to the distribution grid, as this system is based on a five-phase permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). To achieve the connection between the generation system and the grid we use two converters that are installed consecutive and a capacitor acting as a DC link between them. The main objective of this work is to apply the backstepping control (BSC) strategy to this system to improve wind power extraction and maintain the performance stability of the generator under variable wind speed. Modeling of Two Five-Phase Induction Machines Connected in Series with an Open Phase

In the context of a degraded mode control of a drive comprising two five-phase induction machines connected in series and controlled independently, the article focuses on the investigation of the drive’s performance in the case of phase opening, as well as the influence of the fault on the two five-phase machines and their control in normal mode and degraded mode in simulations.

Modeling and control of two five-phase induction machines connected in series powered by matrix converter

The two five-phase Induction Motor (IM) drive system that is serially connected is available in literature. The power supply of such system is considered as a matrix converter (a direct AC to AC converter system) by three and five-phases outputs. The main benefit from the drive topology is the sinusoidal source as a side current with a controllable input side power factor. The decoupled control is achieved similarly to the inverter based drive system. In this paper; the decoupled control of two five-phase induction machines serially connected and powered by a five-phase matrix converter as well as analytical and simulation results are presented.

Sliding mode control of grid‐connected wind energy system driven by 2 five‐phase permanent magnet synchronous generators controlled by a new fifteen‐switch converter

This article presents a new wind energy system using 2 five‐phase permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) controlled by a fifteen‐switch rectifier (FSR) topology for grid‐connected system. The 2 five‐phase PMSGs are connected to the DC link through a FSR; at its turn, the DC link is connected to the grid through a classical three‐phase inverter. In order to boost the control performance of the proposed wind system, a sliding mode control is adopted to control both generators‐side and grid‐side converters. The proposed control is tested under varying wind velocity and compared with a proportional‐ and integral (PI)‐based control system. The obtained simulation results show that the controlled variables follow their references independently of the wind speed fluctuations; and there is a significant reduction in the speeds overshoots by 100% and in the DC‐link voltage ripples by more than 78%. Simulation and modeling of a small permanent magnet synchronous generator wind turbine directly from its datasheet

A model of Small Wind Turbines (SWT) based on the general functional equations under Matlab/Simulink and validate by the modeling of a real generator for residential usage is presented. The considered SWT is based on a variable rotational speed system coupled to a PMSG The method presents a huge original interest thanks to its simplicity by considering at first the response to the wind velocity in agreement to the SWT datasheet, without the necessity of a MPPT technique. Simulations are carried out with discussions showing the effectiveness of the approach.
