Modeling of pesticide adsorption on fixed-bed column using biomaterials: response surface methodology optimization.

Dynamic adsorption of bifenthrin pesticide onto treated gari tellinella shells (TGTS) was investigated using fixed-bed column technique. Response surface methodology based on Box-Behnken design has been used to study the influence operation parameters on the adsorption. Our main goal is to optimize the process at lower cost with maximum efficiency, identification of influential factors to the process, the evaluation of interactions between these factors and modeling mathematical result. The properties of TGTS biosorbent are determined by the application of X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis, pHpzc and Brunauer- Emmett-Teller characterization techniques. Application of the Experimental Design for the Optimization of Microfiltration Membrane

In the present study, the effect of zirconia powder content, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), Contact time and sintering temperature of zirconia microfiltration membrane elaboration were evaluated using Plackett-Burman design (PBD) and investigated by thickness and pore diameter. The zirconia microfiltration membrane has been prepared by the powder suspension technique. A deflocculated suspension of zirconia was obtained by mixing (5-10% w/w) of zirconia,(30-35% w/w) of PVA (12% w/w aqueous solution) as binder and water. The zirconia layer was deposited on the inner surface of clay support by slip casting with a contact time (2-5 min). After drying at room temperature, the ZrO2 membrane was sintered (800-1000 C) for 2 hours. By using PBD, sintering temperature, PVA and zirconia were recognized and selected as important effectives parameters of pore diameter; On the other hand, PVA and contact time were the main controlling parameters of the thickness of zirconia microfiltration layer. The optimal factors to elaborate the microfiltration membrane by using experimental design include a sintering temperature of 1000 C, zirconia content of 5%, PVA content of 30% and contact time of 2 min predicting a pores diameter of 0, 24 µm and thickness of 24 µm.

Statistical optimization of the elaboration of ceramic membrane support using Plackett-Burman and response surface methodology

The effect of Sintering temperature (ST), Particle size (PS), Starch content (SC) and Heating rate (HR) of the Ceramic Support Membrane Elaboration based on wet clay were evaluated using Plackett-Burman Design (PBD) and investigated by porosity and mechanical strength measures. Response Surface Methodology based on Central Composite design (CCD) was used for further optimization. The supports have been prepared from a clay with a two fraction 2 and 30 µm and a starch to enhance the performance of the support. The supports sintered between 900 °C and 1200 °C with a different heating rate (1 °C/min and 10 °C/min). By using PBD, it was found that the sintering temperature (ST) and starch content (SC) are the main controlling factors of the physical properties of ceramic support membrane. Elaboration of TiO2 Ultrafiltration Membrane Deposited on Moroccan Sahara Clay

In this work, the porous ceramic multilayer ultrafiltration membrane is developed. Macroporous support was formed by extrusion of ceramic paste derived from natural Moroccan Sahara Clay. The microporous interlayer was then performed by slip casting from zirconia commercial powders and finally the active ultrafiltration toplayer was obtained by solgel route using TiO2 sol. The performance of TiO2 ultrafiltration membrane was evaluated by pores diameter, thickness of the top layer, water flux, and molecular weight cut off (MWCO). The water permeability measured for this composite membrane is 9.051 l/(m2·h·bar), the thickness is around 900nm, the pore diameter is centered near 7nm and the MWCO was about 5000Da.

Clay Ceramic Support Membrane Optimization Using Factorial Design Approach

In the present study, the effect of Sintering temperature, Particle size and Heating rate of the ceramic support membrane Elaboration based on dry clay were evaluated using full factorial design and investigated by porosity and mechanical strength measures. The flat supports have been prepared from 5 g of the material with a two fraction 2 and 30 µm, the extrusion was performed using the uniaxial pressing in applicant a pressure of 12 tones, the supports sintered between 900 C and 1200 C with a different heating rate (1 C/min and 10 C/min). By using full factorial design 23, it was found that the sintering temperature is the main controlling factors of the physical properties of dry ceramic support membrane, and its increase had a positive effect on Mechanical strength and negative effect on porosity. The interactions between the factors were relatively less important, and they had different (antagonistic/synergetic) influence on the properties. The optimal factors to elaborate the support membrane include a particle size of 2 µm, sintering temperature of 950 C, Heating rate of 1 C predicting the porosity of 40, 8% and Mechanical strength of 12 MPa.

Removal of bifenthrin pesticide from aqueous solutions by treated patellidae shells using a new fixed bed column filtration technique

The Treated Patellidae Shells (TPS) packed in a fixed bed column for the removal of emerging contaminant such as bifenthrin provides novel insights into waste valorisation, application of environmentally harmless sorbents and removal of bifenthrin pesticide with extension possibilities for larger applications. The biosorbent was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDS, TGA-DTA, pHPZC, and BET analysis. TPS biosorbent is composed of a single phase of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) having a high specific area of 158 m2/g. The effects of important parameters such as flow rate, bed height, particles size and bifenthrin feed concentration were studied. The results show that the column efficiency is higher with higher flow rate, higher bed height, higher bifenthrin inlet concentration and lower TPS particles size.
