Network pharmacology and molecular docking study for biological pathway detection of cytotoxicity of the yellow jasmine flowers

BackgroundThe yellow jasmine flower (Jasminum humile L.) is a fragrant plant belonging to the Oleaceae family with promising phytoconstituents and interesting medicinal uses. The purpose of this study was to characterize the plant metabolome to identify the potential bioactive agents with cytotoxic effects and the underlying mechanism of cytotoxic activity.MethodsFirst, HPLC–PDA-MS/MS was used to identify the potential bioactive compounds in the flowers. Furthermore, we assessed the cytotoxic activity of the flower extract against breast cancer (MCF-7) cell line using MTT assay followed by the cell cycle, DNA-flow cytometry, and Annexin V-FITC analyses alongside the effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS). Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Velopharynageal Insufficiency Correction

Purpose To explore the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the evaluation of patients with velopharynagealinsufficiency (VPI) and to use the MRI information obtained to aid in the treatment decision besides its role in the postoperativeevaluation of the patients after VPI correction.Materials & Methods This interventional study that was carried out on 8 patients with VPI due to decreased velar mobility.Preoperative clinical, nasopharyngoscopy and MRI were done for all patients. All patients were undergone intravelar veloplastyto reposition the muscles in their normal position and increase velar mobility. All patients underwent regular follow-up for threemonths by clinical, nasopharyngoscopy and MRI.Results MR images provided evidence of an interruption of levator veli palatine muscle tissue in the midline and a substantialattachment of levator muscle tissue to the posterior border velopharyngeal insufficiency of the hard palate preoperatively whichwas coincident with the decreased velar mobility via nasopharyngoscopy in all patients. Postoperatively, velar mobility wasincreased in all patients which was evident by nasopharyngoscopy and quantitative analysis of LVP by MRI.Conclusion MRI has important role in diagnosis of VPI which was confirmed by nasopharyngoscopy beside its role in thepostoperative evaluation of the LVP.

The Effect of Mineralized Plasmatic Matrix and Chitosan on the Healing of Critical-Sized Mandibular Bone Defects in a Rabbit Model

Background In maxillofacial surgery, critical size mandibular defects remain a challenging issue. There have been numerous attempts to improve mandibular defect healing. Recently, bone tissue engineering has provided many benefits in improving bone healing. Herein, we tried to investigate the effect of Mineralized plasmatic matrix (MPM) and Chitosan to enhance tissue healing and regeneration in mandibular bone defect. Methods A mandibular bone defect of critical size was created in 45 New Zealand rabbits. There were three groups of rabbits: the MPM group, the Chitosan group, and the control group. Radiographical, histological, and immune histochemical evaluations were performed at 4, 8, and 12 post-operative weeks. Results The MPM group demonstrated the highest degree of bone formation with uniform radio-opacity nearly like that of adjacent healthy parent tissue. While in the chitosan group, most of the defect area was filled with radio-opaque bone with persistent small radiolucent areas. The control group showed less bone formation than the MPM and chitosan group, with more radiolucent areas. Sections stained with (H&E) demonstrated an increase in osseous tissue formation in both the MPM and chitosan groups. Staining with Masson’s trichrome revealed an increase in fibrous connective tissue proliferation in both the MPM and chitosan groups. In both the MPM and chitosan groups, nuclear factor kappa p65 was downregulated, and matrix metalloproteinase-9 was upregulated. Conclusion According to the current study, MPM and Chitosan may have beneficial effects on the healing of critical-sized mandibular bone defects.

One Versus Two Stages Surgery of Secondary Cheilorhinoplasty and Alveolar Cleft Grafting

Purpose This study was planned to evaluate clinically and radiographically, the outcomes of secondary cheilorhinoplastyeither simultaneously with or six months after alveolar cleft grafting for patients with unilateral cleft lip nose deformity.Materials and Methods Interventional, comparative study carried out on twenty patients with unilateral cleft lip nosedeformity, were divided randomly into two groups, group I: secondary cheilorhinoplasty was performed simultaneously withalveolar cleft grafting, group II: secondary cheilorhinoplasty was performed six months after it. Patients were assessed bothclinically and radiographically.Results Clinically, significant improvement in functional results regarding NOSE scale and in aesthetic results of nose and lip < br />postoperatively in both groups with no significant difference between them. Radiographically, significant improvement in thenasal airway volume and septal deviation postoperatively in both groups with no significant differences between them.Conclusion No significant differences clinically and radigraphically between one and two stages surgery. Standardizedphotographs are efficient and can be used for aesthetic evaluation of nose and lip. CBCT and computer software are reliabletools for measuring nasal airway volume and septal deviation for assessment of nasal obsruction. NOSE scale is a reliable toolfor nasal function evaluation and POSAS is an efficient tool for scar assessment.
