Graphene nanowalls formation investigated by Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy

The properties of layered materials are significantly dependent on their lattice orientations. Thus, the growth of graphene nanowalls (GNWs) on Cu through PECVD has been increasingly studied, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we examined the GNWs/Cu interface and investigated the evolution of their microstructure using advanced Scanning transmission electron microscopy and Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (STEM-EELS). GNWs interface and initial root layers of comprise graphitic carbon with horizontal basal graphene (BG) planes that conform well to the catalyst surface. In the vertical section, the walls show a mix of graphitic and turbostratic carbon, while the latter becomes more noticeable close to the top edges of the GMWs film. Graphene nanowalls grown on copper mesh

Graphene nanowalls (GNW s) can be described as extended nanosheets of graphitic carbon where the basal planes are perpendicular to a substrate. Generally, existing techniques to grow films of GNW s are based on plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and the use of diverse substrate materials (Cu, Ni, C, etc) shaped as foils or filaments. Usually, patterned films rely on substrates priorly modified by costly cleanroom procedures. Hence, we report here the characterization, transfer and application of wafer-scale patterned GNW s films that were grown on Cu meshes using low-power direct-current PECVD. Reaching wall heights of∼ 300 nm, mats of vertically-aligned carbon nanosheets covered square centimeter wire meshes substrates, replicating well the thread dimensions and the tens of micrometer-wide openings of the meshes. Parametric Modeling of the Capacitive Phenomenon in an OLED Excited by Transient Voltage

This work presents a numerical modeling approach that evaluates the impact of the capacitive behavior of an OLED on its proper functioning. In the first step, the operation of an OLED is investigated with a description of the capacitive phenomenon followed by a presentation of their electrical model using the LT-Spice software. The simulated model highlights the time-resolved electrical response of an OLED subjected to excitation through a transient voltage caused by an intense electric field and evaluated according to several parameters.

Flexible, air-stable, high-performance heaters based on nanoscale-thick graphite films

Graphite sheets are known to exhibit remarkable performance in applications such as heating panels and critical elements of thermal management systems. Industrial-scale production of graphite films relies on high-temperature treatment of polymers or calendering of graphite flakes; however, these methods are limited to obtaining micrometer-scale thicknesses. Herein, we report the fabrication of a flexible and power-efficient cm2-scaled heater based on a polycrystalline nanoscale-thick graphite film (NGF, ∼100 nm thick) grown by chemical vapor deposition. The stability of these NGF heaters (operational in air over the range 30–300 °C) is demonstrated by a 12-day continuous heating test, at 215 °C. The NGF exhibits a fast switching response and attains a steady peak temperature of 300 °C at a driving bias of 7.8 V (power density of 1.1 W/cm2). Experimental Measurement of Conducted Emissions Generated by Static Converters in Common and Differential Modes.

The commutation of semiconductors and their interactions with parasitic elements linked to the environment is known to be the main source of interferences conducted in power electronic converters. Thus, identifying these sources of interferences in commutation cells and determining the level of these conducted emissions generated in energy conversion systems presents a major challenge for designers. In this work, a study of the electromagnetic interferences (EMI) generated by the association of serial rectifierchopper connected to a Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN) is proposed, in which a determination of these interferences is presented in both common and differential modes. All simulations are carried out using the LT-spice software and the results obtained are validated by experimental measurements realized at APELEC laboratory (University of Sidi Bel-Abbes, Algeria).

Accepted: 20 September 2019 Linear Fresnel Plants are composed of flat mirrors that reflect direct radiation towards a fixed receiver tube parallel to the reflectors. In traditional plants, mirrors are able to rotate around a single axis. This type of solar tracking system generates high losses at its ends. In the paper a new configuration is studied in which the mirrors placed at the ends are moved around two axes. The proposed system is thus able to recover the direct radiation which, otherwise, would not reach the receiver tube. The rotation of the mirrors is managed by stepper servomotors. They allow a robust solar tracking, not influenced by external forces. The work presents the kinematic system for moving the field of mirrors actuated with open loop control. Stepper motors generate a motion by steps; in order to execute each step at the exact moment, the logic of movement is properly defined. It is necessary to know in detail the temporal position and the law of motion for each rotation to identify the driving logic of the motors. The behaviour of the" electric motor-mechanical system" is numerically modelled, evaluating the torque and the errors in the motion.

Effect of the electrode material on ignition of ethylene–air mixtures

This article presents an experimental quantification of the ignition risk of flammable mixtures in conditions relevant to industry and aviation environment. More specifically, the effect of resistive material on ignition of flammable mixtures was investigated by applying a 500-ns duration high-voltage pulse between pin-to-pin electrodes located across a jet flow of ethylene and air, at atmospheric pressure. Fuel-rich, stoichiometric, and fuel-lean equivalence ratios were considered. A parametric study of the effect of the applied voltage and electrode material was performed. The electrical energy deposited in the discharges was determined from current and voltage measurements. Direct visualization of the sparks and the ignition kernel was performed in order to better understand the early stages of the ignition process.
