Improving Genetic Algorithm Performance Using Artificial Intelligence for the First Population

The design of UWB antennas is a complex process that involves many design parameters and constraints, such as the physical layout of the antenna, the frequency range, and the radiation pattern. The genetic Algorithm (GA) is a powerful optimization technique that can be used to solve these complex problems. However, the performance of GA is highly dependent on the initialization of the first population, which is commonly generated randomly. In this paper, we propose using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate the first population of GA and demonstrate an improvement of 9.5% in the performance of the optimization process.

Optimization of dual-band notched UWB trapezoidal antenna using genetic algorithm approach

Genetic algorithm (GA) optimization is applied to design an Ultra-wideband UWB-CPW-fed Trapezoidal with a dual-band frequency notch. A two-dimensional (2-D) matrix chromosome is used in the GA to represent a wide-range on planar trapezoidal element. It is shown that the GA generates antenna designs exhibit equal wideband performance defined by VSWR<;2, ranging from 3.1 to 13.66 GHz (an impedance bandwidth of 126%), with a good dual-band-notched performance in the 5 GHz (WLAN band) and 7.2 GHz bands (ITU satellite communication systems). The GA-generated antenna shows almost omnidirectional radiation patterns and a good gain in the whole UWB range except at notched bands.

A dual band notched UWB antenna with optimized DGS using genetic algorithm

An optimized dual-bandnotched antenna for Ultra-Wide Bandapplications, using the Genetic Algorithm (GA), is presented. By optimizing a Defected Ground Structure (DGS) in the ground plane of the UWB antenna, two notches are created at the desired frequency bands of 3.5 GHz and 5.8 GHz, respectively. A good agreement between the measurement and simulation results is observed. The optimized DGS shows good performance and accuracy compared to conventional approaches.
