A centimeter-sized liquid bridge constrained between two insulated discs is surrounded by another immiscible liquid, which is heated or cooled via a ring heater/cooler. The effect of ring position on the circulation patterns and heat transfer is investigated with the help of 2D axisymmetric numerical simulations. Such systems are important in capillary adhesion devices, biological heat transfer and phase-change-material-based thermoelectric generators. An increase in the heat transfer rate is observed when the heating (cooling) ring is placed near the bottom (top) disc. However, the net heat transferred to the capillary bridge is not a monotonic function of the heater/cooler position. The cooler configuration shows a minimum heat transfer for the cooler ring lying midway between the two solid discs, whereas, for the heater configuration this occurs for a heater position further below this point. A liquid bridge connecting two solid disks is surrounded by a heating/cooling ring in the presence of another immiscible liquid. The thermocapillary convection and the interface deformation thus generated in a gravitational environment are studied for a range of bridge aspect ratios and ring temperatures using 2D axisymmetric simulations. A stark difference between the heater and cooler cases is observed in their flow and heat transfer patterns. Interfacial velocity and bridge deformation are seen to be more stable when a cooling ring surrounds the liquid bridge. Fluid trajectories inside the bridge show longer paths as the temperature difference between the cooler/heater and the surroundings is raised. Moreover, a cooler lessens the deformation, whereas a heater enhances the deformation of the phase interface. Fluid flow and heat transfer due to Marangoni convection in a liquid-bridge suspended between two solid discs and surrounded by a heating/cooling ring is investigated in this work. The capillary bridge consists of water and the surrounding fluid is taken as a 10 cSt silicone oil. The flow and heat transfer are found to attain a quasi-steady state for most of the heater/cooler positions. In addition, heat transfer to the bridge in the heater configuration is found to be the maximum when the heater ring is closer to the bottom disc, whereas, this occurs for the cooler configuration when the cooling ring is near the top disc. Moreover, the heater configuration exhibits a transition in the heat transfer and interfacial velocity when the heater is placed midway between the two discs. Coalescence of a millimeter-sized drop initially touching a pool of the same liquid in the presence of another surrounding viscous liquid is studied in this work, wherein the drop may be hotter or colder than its surroundings. Moreover, the effect of the outer fluid viscosity on the coalescence dynamics and thermal convection is examined. An axisymmetric numerical model is employed to investigate the drop merger dynamics, wherein the drop and pool are modeled as water fluid, and the surroundings are modeled as silicone oils of different viscosities. The coalescence behaviors of hot and cold drops are found to be significantly different, especially at higher temperature differences. An otherwise partial coalescence for an isothermal system turns into a case of total coalescence when the drop is made colder than its surroundings, whereas the behavior in the case of a hot drop does not depart qualitatively from that of a …
