The final carbonation mud resulted from sugar beet clarification process has been and still represents the most common waste problem in sugar industry. It contains mainly calcium carbonate beside other minor constituents. In this study, a novel technique was developed, which involves combination of Limex method and sol–gel method for the preparation of calcium oxide nanoparticles (CON) from the carbonation mud waste. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The SEM and TEM images showed that the CON particles are semi-hexagonal in morphology with particles size 60–275 nm. A high surface area 747.62 m2/g was also determined. Here, we have synthesized four series of polyamide-conductive polymers and used them to modify Fe3O4 NPs/ITO electrodes. The ability of the modified electrodes to detect methotrexate (MTX) anticancer drug electrochemically was investigated. Synthesis of the target-conducting polyamides, P1a–d, P2a–d, P3a, P3b, P3d, and P4c-d, based on different aromatic moieties, such as ethyl 4-(2-(4H-pyrazol-4-ylidene)hydrazinyl)benzoate, diphenyl sulfone, diphenyl ether or phenyl, has been achieved. They were successfully prepared in good yield via solution–polycondensation reaction of the diamino monomers with different dicarboxylic acid chlorides in the presence of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent and anhydrous LiCl as a catalyst. A model compound 4 was synthesized from one mole of ethyl-4-(2-(3, 5-diamino-4H-pyrazol-4-ylidene)hydrazinyl) benzoate (diamino monomer) (3) with two moles benzoyl chloride. The structure of the synthesized monomers and polymers was confirmed by elemental and spectral analyses. In addition, thermogravimetric analysis evaluated the thermal stabilities of these polyamides. Furthermore, the morphological properties of selected polyamides were examined using an scanning electron microscope. Polyamide/Fe3O4/ITO electrodes were prepared, and the electrochemical measurements were performed to measure the new polyamides’ conductivity and to detect the MTX anticancer drug in phosphate buffer saline using cyclic voltammetry. The polyamides (P3b and P4b)/Fe3O4/ITO electrodes showed the highest sensitivity and reversibility towards MTX.

Herein, eighteen novel photochromic tetrahydroindolizines (THIs) have been successfully prepared using a well-established mechanochemical synthetic approach. These products were obtained in good to excellent yields and the purification process was relatively straightforward devoid of any isolation challenges. The new THIs incorporate various substituents in region C (base part) which include both electron donating and withdrawing groups in the ortho, meta and para positions of the phenyl ring. The absorption maxima (λmax) of both closed form (THI) and the colored form (betaine, after UV-irradiation) were spectrophotometrically determined in dichloromethane solution. The colored betaines displayed two absorption maxima, one between 472 and 485 nm, and the second one appearing in the white region between 658 and 724 nm with tailing extending to the near infra-red (NIR) region. Schiff bases represent an essential class in organic chemistry with antitumor, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activities. The synthesis of Schiff bases requires the presence of an organic base as a catalyst such as piperidine. Base-free synthesis of organic compounds using a heterogeneous catalyst has recently attracted more interest due to the facile procedure, high yield, and reusability of the used catalyst. Herein, we present a comparative study to synthesize new Schiff bases containing indole moieties using piperidine as an organic base catalyst and Au@TiO2 as a heterogeneous catalyst. In both methods, the products were isolated in high yields and fully characterized using different spectral analysis techniques. Hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks nanoparticles (ZIF-8 NPs) were synthesized at room temperature via a template-free approach under dynamic conditions (stirring) using water as a solvent. The ZIF-8 NPs were evaluated as adsorbents for rare earth elements (La3+, Sm3+ and Dy3+). Adsorption equilibrium was reached after 7 h and high adsorption capacities were obtained for dysprosium and samarium (430.4 and 281.1 mg g−1, respectively) and moderate adsorption capacity for lanthanum (28.8 mg g−1) at a pH of 7.0. The high adsorption capacitiese, as well as the high stability of ZIF-8 NPs, make the hierarchical ZIF-8 materials as an efficient adsorbent for the recovery of La3+, Sm3+ and Dy3+ from aqueous solution.

A new mechanochemical synthetic strategy for the synthesis of novel tetrahydroindolizines (THIs) photochromes incorporating different substituents in both regions B (ester part), and region C (base part) has been developed. The UV-irradiation of the colored betaine forms of the novel THIs and their absorption maxima (λmax) were determined in dichloromethane solution. The betaines exhibited one absorption maxima around 440–450 nm, and the second one in the white region at 680–740 nm. The thermodynamic activation parameters for the ring closure of colored betaines were calculated and compared with similar compounds. The kinetics of the 1,5-electrocyclization back reaction the designed photochromic by incorporating substitutions in all the three THI regions was also determined. The research aimed to identify the bioactive compounds present in Syzygium cumini seeds by GC-MS and to determine the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activities of seed extract. Phytochemical analysis revealed that phenols and flavonoids were more abundant in comparison to other compounds. The results of antioxidant activity as measured by DPPH assay and anti-inflammatory activity as measured by albumin denaturation assay revealed that the acetone extract exhibited significant antioxidant (inhibition %—93.08 ± 0.43% and IC50—22.10 µg/mL) and anti-inflammatory activity (inhibition % 80.04 ± 0.52% and IC50—43.67 µg/mL). The extracts exhibited remarkable antibacterial activity with the zone of inhibition varying from 10.67 ± 0.75 to 16.67 ± 1.07 mm among which Staphylococcus aureus was more susceptible followed by Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus …
