Mitigation of power quality problems using voltage-controlled based modified DSTATCOM

This paper proposes a modified distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) with the voltage controller. The modified DSTATCOM is incorporated in a three-phase four-wire distribution network. The design criteria of the modified DSTATCOM parameters is introduced. The Hysteresis Voltage Controller (HVC) is used to drive the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and its reference voltage signal is generated based on the Instantaneous Symmetrical Components Theory (ISCT) to provide the proper compensation to stabilise the system voltage, improve the power factor and mitigate the harmonic distortion. Matlab/Simulink software is used to verify the performance of the modified DSTATCOM with the used controller under different load types and supply voltage conditions. The Effects of Forced Outages Rates and Load Uncertainty on the Generation Reliability Evaluation.

In analysis of generation reliability assessment in power systems, the effect of both forced outages, and uncertainties in load forecasting must be taken into consideration. In this paper, the analysis has been evolved from loss-of-load and loss-of-energy probability techniques. The student-t-distribution method is used to calculate the uncertainty of the forecast peak demand at specified intervals of confidence. The effects of the numbers and the forced outage rates of the generating units have been studied.

Factors Affecting the Natural Machine Damping Power in Series Compensated Power Systems.

Studies of the application of series capacitor compensation in integrated power systems lead to consideration of the effects of the compensation upon the contribution arising from the natural damping of the generators. In general the series compensation is chosen because of the reduction in transfer reactance, but this paper shows that there is also an improvement in the natural positive sequence machine damping Automatic voltage regulator effects and the effects of feedback signals in such controls have been studied. The possibility of sub-synchronous resonance is taken into account.

A low Profile Multiband Microstrip Patch Antenna For 5G Mm-Wave Wireless Applications

This paper addresses a low profile multiband microstrip patch antenna design for 5G mm-Wave wireless networks, applications and devices. The proposed patch antenna has a compact rectangular-Shaped structure of 8.6 x 9.2 x 0.6 mm 3 including the ground plane and the slotted inset feed line, that is suitable to be used in smart handheld devices. The antenna operating at 23.8 GHz, 39.4 GHz, 66.2 GHz, 81.9 GHz and 93.9 GHz mm-Wave bands with a maximum bandwidth of 1.4663 GHz, 2.5634 GHz, 5.6609 GHz, 7.9341 GHz and 11.3 GHz respectively. At the resonant frequencies, the proposed design provides a gain of 6.1805 dBi, 6.525 dBi, 7.3768 dBi, 7.4845 dBi and 7.7006 dBi respectively. Catastrophe and Hopf-Bifurcation Theorems for Synchronous Machine Stability Studies.

Both catastrophe theory and the Hopf bifurcation theorem can be applied to the study of the stability of synchronous generators connected to power systems, when subjected to small disturbances. The Hopf bifurcation theorem can be used to determine the stability of the produced orbits of oscillation which indicate the stability state of the synchronous machine, here treated first as a second order problem and then by including the governor response. Catastrophe theory usefully visualises the stability problem by deriving the approp riate catastrophe manifold. In this paper this is shown to be a" butterfly" manifold, after taking into account the described conditions.

Slotted Tree-Shaped Microstrip Patch Antenna Using SSRR for Wide-band Applications

This paper presents a new design of a multiband antenna for multiband applications. To enhance the bandwidth and return loss characteristics, three Square split ring resonators (SSRRs) and two inverted U-slots on a partial ground were applied in this design. The antenna has a size of mm 3 , printed on FR-4 dielectric material with height (h) of 1.6 mm, loss tangent () of 0.02 and dielectric constant () of 4.4. Antenna parameters such as return loss (), gain, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), radiation pattern were simulated and analyzed. The antenna has two frequency bands. The first band (2.74GHz - 7.48GHz) in which the antenna resonates at frequencies, 3.37 GHz, 5.15 GHz, 6.64 GHz, 7.4 GHz and the second band (8.23 GHz - 9.8 GHz) with a center frequency at 9 GHz. A racial recognition method based on facial color and texture for improving demographic classification

Facial recognition is one of the important techniques in the security and authentication domain of the present time. Facial image recognition involves complex process which reduces the overall performance of the system for a large database, and consequently, it may incur inefficiency to the system in the commercial sector. In this paper, we split the image database into a set of smaller groups by classifying the face images in terms of race demography. First, facial components (i.e., eyes, nose and mouth) are captured using a segmentation technique and then race sensitive features: chromatic/skin tone and local features from face images are extracted using Color Coherence Vector and Gabor filter. K-Nearest Neighbors, Artificial Neural Network, and Support Vector Machines are then used to classify the face image according to race groups. Multiband microstrip patch antenna operating at five distinct 5G mm-wave bands

A novel mm-Wave multiband microstrip patch antenna for 5G wireless communication is designed and presented in this paper. The proposed design is an H-shaped with inset feed and a rectangular slit in the upper side of the radiating patch. The 5G mm-Wave antenna resonates at frequencies of 23.2, 40.3, 59.3, 86.9 and 104.3 GHz with a maximum bandwidth of 1.1, 2.8, 18.1, 7.7 and 10.7 GHz respectively. The antenna has sufficient realized gains of 6.4882, 7.1198, 7.9062, 8.1804 and 9.8156 dBi at the resonant frequencies respectively. Furthermore, the antenna covers the most interest 5G mm-Wave spectrum with a total bandwidth of 40.4 GHz. Sizing of Battery Energy Storage System for Electrical Power Grid with High Penetration Level of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy resources (RERs), mainly wind and photovoltaic (PV), can be integrated into the power system to reap the gains of clean energy. However, the stochastic output of large-scale RERs introduces many integration challenges on the power system, especially when replacing the conventional generation by RERs. To avoid the power-gap between the generation and demand because of variable sources existence, the energy storage devices (ESDs) are introduced. Batteries that have high energy density and reasonable time response are the appropriate technology for steady state operation. Their sizing is essential for assuring the intact operation of the power system. In this work, the load flow algorithm that emulates a proper battery power profile is used. Then, a developed algorithm to adjust the battery size and its initial value is proposed. Different case studies are presented to comprehensively analyze the impact of RERs integration with the ESDs on the power system operation. The proposed algorithm with the aid of power system analysis toolbox (PSAT) is applied to the medium voltage (MV), IEEE-14 bus test system to validate and emphasize its applicability.

Subsynchronous Resonance Problems in an Integrated Power System.

The problem of subsynchronous resonance (SSR), which is not simp le for an interconnected multi-machine power system, is studied in this paper. The analytical approach that has been used for such a study is described in detail, and numerical examples are given bele  A mathematical approach has been derived which calculates the electrical natural frequencies in an inter connected power systems. It shows the effects of various degrees of series compensation that are possible, together with the effects of alternative system parameters.  This is necessary to determine the possibility of sy stem natural interaction with torque resonance. Series compensation can be considered at any level or omitted altogether.

Design and Simulation of Multiband Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna with CSRR for WLAN and WiMAX Applications

In this work, a single-feed circular microstrip patch antenna was proposed, designed and optimized for WLAN and WiMAX applications. The proposed antenna was printed on FR-4 dielectric substrate material with a relative permittivity (εr) of 4.4, a loss tangent (tan ẟ) of 0.02 and a height (h) of 1.6 mm. The characteristics of the proposed antenna were improved by etching two square-shaped Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) on a partial ground plane and one square-shaped CSRR on the main circular patch radiator. Radius of the circular patch is 12 mm and the overall size of the structure is being 50 × 40 × 1.6 mm3. The proposed design is a multiband antenna resonating at four resonant frequencies and operating at two frequency bands. A circular multiband microstrip patch antenna with DGS for WLAN/WiMAX/Bluetooth/UMTS/LTE

This paper proposes a circular multiband, wideband antenna for wireless applications such as WLAN, WiMAX, LTE, Bluetooth, UMTS and suitable for satellite C-band application. Bandwidth enhancement is realized by etching two single square-shaped complementary ring resonators (CSRRs) on the partial ground and three thin rectangular slots on the main circular radiator. The radiating patch is printed on a flame resistant-4 epoxy (FR4) dielectric substrate with an overall size of 70 mm × 70 mm × 3.6 mm, a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a loss tangent of 0.02. The presented antenna operates at (1.9–2.65) GHz band centered at 2.24 GHz and at (3.34–7.84) GHz band with four resonant frequencies (3.43 GHz, 4.36 GHz, 5.56 GHz and 7.51 GHz). The total bandwidth achieved is 5.25 GHz and the peak gains achieved at resonant frequencies are 2.7 dB, 5.72 dB, 4.55 dB, 3.85 dB and 5.8 dB respectively. This …

Dual-band rectangular microstrip patch antenna with csrr for 28/38 ghz bands applications

This paper presents a dual-band microstrip patch antenna operating at 28/38 GHz bands used in 5G mobile networks. The proposed structure is integrated to a Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate material with a relative permittivity of 2.2, height of 0.6 mm and loss tangent of 0.0009. To get dual resonance and hence an enhanced bandwidth, two square-shaped Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) are etched, one on the radiating patch and the other on the ground plane. The structure is compact with an overall size of 7 mm × 7 mm × 0.6 mm. Simulation shows that, the patch is operating at two frequency bands. The first band, centered around 28 GHz has a bandwidth of 1.94 GHz while the second band is 4.8 GHz bandwidth around the 38 GHz resonant frequency. IDS for improving DDoS attack recognition based on attack profiles and network traffic features

Intrusion detection system (IDS) is one of the important parts in security domains of the present time. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) detection involves complex process which reduces the overall performance of the system, and consequently, it may incur inefficiency or failure to the network. In this paper, the attacks database is split into a set of groups by classifying the attack types in terms of the most dominant features that define the profile of each attack along with the sensitive network traffic features. Decision Tree, AdaBoost, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbors and Naive Bayes are then used to classify each attack according to their profile features. DDoS attack was considered for all chosen classifiers. It is found that the average classification accuracy for the above-mentioned algorithms is 95.31 % , 95.68%, 95.69%, 92.61 % and 83.11 %, respectively, providing plausible results when comparing to other …

Dual band rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G Millimeter-Wave wireless access and backhaul applications

Millimeter waves (mm-Waves) can offer large spectrum bandwidths, provide data rates of multi-Gbps and enable seamless connectivity among various devices in the future wireless network (5G and beyond). Incorporating mm-Wave microstrip antennas in 5G networks will be highly instrumental which provides the advantages of miniaturization, wider bandwidth, narrow radiation pattern, and are better suited for the data rates enhancement with lower delays. In this paper, a low cost, compact size and bandwidth efficient dual-band rectangular microstrip patch antenna is proposed for 5G mm-Wave wireless access and backhaul applications. The antenna has a small size of 7.18 × 8.38 × 0.78 mm3.
